Why this subject of Farming was chosen?
Importance of Agriculture is too well known to everyone. I am born in a farming family in a small village. I am the first graduate from that village. Having grown in a farm, I liked the profession and life in a rural atmosphere. My farmer father was keen I should take up a government service.
Even after joining IPS after few years of farming and practicing law, my interest in farming continued. So whatever the position I held, and wherever I was posted, I have always taken up issues concerning agriculture, water, welfare of farmers and environment.
I have taken up many such issues on behalf of farmers associations and myself with successive Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu and Karnataka-and also at National level with successive Prime Ministers, Ministers for Agriculture and Water Resources of the Government of India.
My intervention and contribution in solving amicably some of the major farmer's agitations in Karnataka and Tamilnadu are highly appreciated and very well documented even by the contemporary media, both electronic and print.
To do justice to the subject, volumes need to be written. This letter is only a humble effort to focus on some of the burning issues of farmers, who work hard and continue to serve with lot of sacrifice, ensuring food security and growth of the Nation.
