Just visited some institutions in and around Madurai and Tenkasi where many many children born with numerous disabilities (challenges) and also adults of various ages suffering from disabilities from birth or acquired later in life at various times in life-also the emergency care and recovery centers.
Severe Mental Illness of various degrees - Stroke-Spinal cord injuries-Cerebral Palsy-Autism Spectrum Disorders-Intellectual disabilities-Parkinson's disease-Motor Neuron disease-Congenital deformities-Low Vision-Hearing Impairment-Leprosy cured person-Mental illness-Muscular Dystrophy-Speech and Language disabilities-Multiple disabilities-Multiple sclerosis-Locomotor disabilities-Specific learning disabilities-Sports injuries-Arthritis conditions-Amputation-Specific neurological conditions-Spinal deformities-Congenital talipes equino varus-Spinal disc diseases.
Apart from treatment and healing, the following rehabilitation are provided to above conditionsMedical doctor care-Physiotherapy-Occupational Therapy-Nursing Care-Psychological counselling-Play-based therapy-Yoga therapy-Special education-Various adaptive sports activities-Meditation.
I interacted with patients undergoing various treatments, therapists, doctors, caregivers, parents. I was moved to hear from some children and adults, who have totally recovered and heard their emotional experiences. Also addressed the children, the faculty and the caregivers separately.
Rescue-recovery-treatment-healing-rehabilitation-reintegration-food-accommodation-importing skills-all done pro bono-everything free and rendered with so much love and care-more-perhaps even more than what the parents/family members would have given them with so much of passion, patience and courage for long periods.
God gives life. Those who are rendering dedicated and loving care actually give new life, skills and opportunities to so many a new life. I was amazed and admired all of them and the noble minded organisers. More later.
